Lure Fishbar

When my cousin asked me where I wanted her to take me out for dinner for my "happy graduation, real life has started, say bye to fun college times" dinner I knew immediately I wanted to go to Lure. Living in landlocked Colorado, you do not really have access to that many seafood restaurants, so not only did I need my dose of some delicious fish, but I also needed some Josh Capon back in my life. If you are a Burrnttoast groupie, which you obviously are, then you recognize the name. The executive chef at both B&B and Lure, Josh is a true talent and such a mench!
Always welcomed with the warmest of greetings, Josh knows how to make a food lover happy. Every bite of food Josh brought over for my cousin and I to nosh on got better and better with each dish.
Shrimp Skewers
Deviled Eggs topped w/ Caviar!
Both of these dishes, while they might be small, were jam packed with flavor and super scrumptious. I could have probably ate 1,000 more of those deviled eggs. No Jokes.... Moving on to entrees, I really was stuck in a huge kosher pickle trying to decide what I wanted to order. Salmon, soft shell crab, scallops, snapper?? Everything looked amazing! Finally, I decided, on Josh's recommendation: the red snapper. Could a chef like Josh steer you wrong? No...
Salmon w/ Brussel Sprouts, Bacon, & Truffled Onions
Steamed Red Snapper w/ Bok Choy, Jasmine Rice, & Red Curry Broth
Stop it right now! I know that you know how incredible these dishes were! Both the salmon and the red snapper were cooked to perfection. The accompanying ingredients together with the fishes were a marriage made in heaven. There is actually not one thing I would change about either of these dishes. LOVE!
Chocolate, Salted Caramel & Toasted Marshmallow Ice Cream
Yes! us fat asses obviously got dessert. With absolutely no more room left for us to eat we got a trio of ice creams because that's how we do. I must tell you however that the toasted marshmallow ice cream was beyond! Actually a toasted marshmallow in ice cream form, I have no clue how they did it. I wouldn't mind an entire graduation ice cream cake of that flavor with those little chocolate crunchies from Carvel (hint, hint)
PS: do me a favor and make your way over to Lure, you won't regret it. ALSO, don't forget to check out Josh Capon on the The Rachael Ray Show here - http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/food/recipes/six-burger-toppings-six-minutes/

Cured

Cured is a small gourmet food shop in Boulder, CO offering cheeses, cured meats, wines, and other artisanal grocery items. In addition, they also offer two sandwiches that change daily that can be seen on their Facebook page here
Having been in before, but never having had one of their sandwiches, I finally decided it was about time I made some moves. Luckily for me, my friend Arnowitz and I went to Cured on a day where they were offering amazing sounding sandwiches. Not only did these sandwiches sound amazing, but they tasted amazing as well! Using only the best ingredients, Cured works hard to put out some great lunch items!
I was all over the porchetta and Arnowitz was all over the apple parm, so it was a perfect match. We had our own sandies, but got to try the other. I have to say though I was more then happy with my decision. We took our sandwiches to the top of Flagstaff mountain for one last time before leaving Boulder and enjoyed every single bite.
Can you say you ate porchetta on top of the world? I don't think so....

Restaurants Approved

Nervous of my family's approval on my favorite restaurants in Boulder  was a nerve racking experience that I had to endure all weekend. I know my taste in food is one to be reckoned with, but there is always that feeling of insecurity when you are trying to impress the ones that helped you develop your extensive palate. Luckily for me, my dad could not stop telling me how well I did. Only taking them to the restaurants that I have thoroughly enjoyed in the past, I only hoped that my taste buds have done me right and they sure as hell did. The Burr family was in food overload heaven. Loving every single bite, they were extremely impressed with the Boulder food scene.
The first restaurant we went to was Oak at Fourteenth. You've seen it here on Burrnttoast twice before and yes, it deserves a third time appearence. It amazes me how every single visit to Oak just keeps on getting better. We obviously started with the kale salad with shaved gala apples as well as the braised meatballs with burrata. For our main dishes...
Spring Ramp Risotto w/ royal red shrimp, lemon & tarragon
Wood Grilled Rocky Jr. Chicken w/ cracklings, pickled ramps, parm gnocchi, asparagus, & chicken jus
Oak Grilled NY Beef Striploin w/ baby beets, pickled horseradish creme fraiche & fingerling potatoes.
Ricotta Cheesecake w/ rhubard sauce
cheers to graduation!
The next successful & delicious meal took place at Pizzeria Locale. Being the Neapolitan pizza lovers that we are, I knew without a doubt that I had to take them to Pizzeria Locale. Having been a couple times before, this pizzeria, never failed to bring the freshest and tastiest ingredients. My dad even gave one of the biggest compliments someone can get here in Colorado...that the pizza reminded him of a restaurant back in New York [Motorinos to be specific]. Pizza in Boulder as good as pizza in New York? I must say this is quite true.
I insisted that we must start our meal with Pizzeria Locale's polpettine. Pork meatballs generously doused in an incredible walnut pesto, these meatballs might be one of the best meatballs I've ever had.
After devouring these balls, we spent a couple of minutes strategically figuring out exactly what pizzas we wanted to order. We went with one traditional-ish type pizza, one white based pizza, and one majorly different & creative pizza.
Maialemozzarella di bufala-parmigiano reggiano-prosciutto crudo-arugula
Carbonara: self explanatory...

Mais: mozzarella di bufala-sweet corn-crème fraiche-prosciutto cotto

I must say we did pretttty prettttty well. Every pizza was jam packed with flavor and consisted of the perfect chewy but soft crust. My mouth waters just looking at these pictures. Thinking that I am now graduated and never getting my hands on these pizzas anytime soon is painful to think about, but at least I have these pictures to stare at all day.

Reppin' NY Deli Zone Style

In most cases, when you meet anyone from the tri-state area out here in Boulder, the first subject that comes up in the conversation is food. There is an absolute disgust over the lack of genuine New York food here in Colorado. There are no real NY delis, no real NY pizza joints and no real NY bagels. It is as if they think its cute to deprive of us of our favorite foods....well it's not! Us East coasters need our daily intake of carbs! The whole organic thing tends to get old sometimes Boulder!
This brings me to tell you about Deli Zone - Famous Brooklyn Heroes. Clearly within the last 3 days of our time left here in Boulder, my friends and I discover Brooklyn Deli Zone. Why nobody filled us in on this sooner? I just do not know. Besides the fact that the name of every sandwich is themed around New York, it actually is the closest thing I have tasted here in Boulder that reminds me of the Big Apple.
Fluffy poppy-seed kaiser roll with two fried eggs, american cheese, sausage and some perfectly cooked hash browns. Yes kids, you heard right...HASH BROWNS!
Same good 'ol "Baby Kong" sandwich, but with some crunchy bacon. Any meat you choose to put on your sandwich does not matter, this sandwich is still a hefty beauty.

Class of 2012!

Excited, sad, scared, happy - so many different emotions swirling around during this time: GRADUATION! People like to say, "where did the past four years go?" No, but really...where the fuck did they go?! I remember seeing CU Boulder for the first time and falling in love and now I'm leaving this amazing place? That's some messed up shit.
There is, however, one upside to this depressing 'say goodbye to the fun times' weekend....parents are coming to town! Which means yummy food on the regular. I've prepared a pretty nice line up so far for them: Oak at Fourteenth, Pizzeria Locale and The Kitchen.  I hope they're ready!

Michael White x Josh Capon x Ozersky

I'm becoming absolutely obsessed with  Vice's Munchies series. I posted Eddie Huang's not too long ago and now I'm posting Michael White's (which might be one of my favorite ones yet), but I'm biased because my boy Josh Capon has a killer cameo. I love me some Michael White, but I must say Capon made this episode. The scene at Puddin' was amazing!! Not to mention Sripraphai is my go to for the best Thai food in New York. Plus, I worked for a company that represented the great Josh Ozersky, so really this video has my name written all over it. It's quite enjoyable and extremely entertaining -  I LOVE IT!  PS: Olivia Young just might have my dream job!
